On February 29th 2024, the Career Center of the Islamic University of Riau organized a

Career Counseling and Guidance session for prospective job seekers, with participants

comprising final semester students of the university. The event was graced by the presence

of SYAMSUWIR, SH, M.IP, the head of the Pekanbaru City Manpower Office, along with

Abdul Rahim, SP, MMA, who serves as the Head of Development and PKK. The sources of

information for the event were Mr Syarif, SH, MH, the chairman of the Human Capital

Forum and an alumnus of UIR, and Eli Gusriani S.Sos from the Pekanbaru Hospitality

Institute. A total of 75 participants actively engaged in the event.

The Career Counseling and Guidance event aimed to provide valuable insights and

assistance to final-semester students navigating the job market effectively. With

distinguished guests and experienced speakers, attendees gained knowledge about various

career prospects, refined their job-seeking skills, and learned about industry trends and

expectations.

During the session, participants benefited from the expertise the guest speakers shared,

including resume writing tips, interview techniques, and professional networking.

Moreover, representatives from the Pekanbaru City Manpower Office facilitated discussions

on job opportunities, labour market demands, and government initiatives to support

employment.

Mr. Syarif, SH, MH, emphasized the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in

today’s competitive job market. He encouraged students to proactively seek personal and

professional development opportunities, underscoring the significance of acquiring practical

skills and industry-relevant knowledge.

Eli Gusriani S.Sos shared insights from the perspective of the hospitality industry, shedding

light on career paths, growth prospects, and the essential qualities sought by employers in

the sector. Her expertise provided valuable guidance to students considering careers in

hospitality and related fields.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to seek

clarification on various career-related topics and engage directly with the speakers. Overall,

the Career Counseling and Guidance event organized by the Islamic University of Riau’s

Career Center was an enriching experience for final-semester students, equipping them with

valuable insights and skills essential for their transition into the professional world.
